Charlie Daniels was an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist skilled on guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin. He was best know for his contributions to southern rock, country and bluegrass music.
Honey In the Rock, the 1973 third album, contains his first hit single “Uneasy Rider” that reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Daniels won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” that reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year. Other pop hits include “In America” (#11 in 1990), The Legend of Wooley Swamp” (#13 in 1980) and “Still in Saigon” (#22 in 1982).
During his career Charlie can be associated with the Beau Weevils, Marshall Tucker Band, Lynard Skynard, Bob Dylan, The Youngbloods, Lenard Cohn and of course The Charlie Daniels Band.
On October 18, 2005, Daniels was honored as a BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) icon at their 53d annual BMI Country Awards. He also won six BMI Country Music Awards for song-writing during his career. In October 2016 he became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
